Eyelid Reconstruction
Conveniently located to serve the areas of Danville, Walnut Creek and Manteca, CA
Eyelid reconstruction, also known as eyelid reconstructive plastic surgery, improves the appearance of your upper eyelids, your lower eyelids, or both. It gives a rejuvenated appearance to the surrounding area of your eyes, making you look more rested and alert. It addresses any defects that may have occurred to the eyelid, no matter what the cause. Defects in both the upper and lower eyelid can be addressed by reconstructive plastic surgery. When any defect disturbs the natural contour of either the upper or lower eyelid, it can affect your aesthetics, and also sometimes even impair your vision.

Benefits
Eyelid deformity or defects can be treated by eyelid reconstruction by reconstructing skin and tissue structures in either the lower or upper eyelid. Eyelid reconstruction can be undertaken in a variety of situations, and this is due to the fact that defects in your eyelid may arise from a wide multiplicity of causes. The need for eyelid reconstruction most commonly occurs after trauma or tumor excision, and in some instances, after traumatic injuries or removal of larger growths or skin cancers. Larger defects may need to be treated which extend across the whole lid.
Ideal Candidate
Eyelid reconstruction can help you address everything from simple superficial defects in your eyelid that can occur following a minor trauma or removal of small growths to much more visibly distressing issues. Eyelid skin cancer is a common reason patients seek specialized care. Dr. Gladstone has tremendous experience in rendering both significant functional and cosmetic improvements for his eyelid reconstruction patients.
Surgery Preparation
Eyelid reconstruction requires some preparation on your part to optimize your outcomes. During your consultation, Dr. Gladstone will provide you with detailed instructions so that you can know what you will need to do before your eyelid reconstruction.
Surgery Duration
Eyelid reconstruction is usually performed on an outpatient basis with close follow-up afterward by Dr. Gladstone. Most eyelid reconstruction surgeries are done under local anesthesia. Upper eyelid defects involving one-third or less of the horizontal length of the upper eyelid can usually be repaired by Dr. Gladstone through direct closure. Upper eyelid defects involving loss of one-third to one-half of your horizontal length of your upper eyelid requires that Dr. Gladstone utilize other techniques, including the sliding transoconjunctival flap.
Expectations
After your eyelid reconstruction surgery, you will need to return the following day for a routine check. If non-absorbable sutures were used during your surgery, you will need to return for your suture removal in one week. Dr. Gladstone will give you eye drops to place in your eye socket after your patch is removed. Dr. Gladstone will provide you with specific postoperative instructions that you should follow to help optimize your eyelid reconstruction outcome.
Residual Scarring
Eyelid reconstruction varies in terms of scarring, and very often the degree of scarring is almost entirely contingent on the cause of the eyelid defect that precipitates eyelid reconstruction. During your free consultation with Dr. Gladstone, we will work with you to develop a treatment plan that minimizes any possibility of resultant scars.
