Dermal Fillers
Conveniently located to serve the areas of Danville, Walnut Creek and Manteca, CA
Nearly everyone wants to look the best they can be. Cosmetic Surgery may require too much downtime. Adding volume appropriately and relaxing lines leads to rejuvenation. Many patients turn to Dr. Hayes B. Gladstone for dermal fillers and injectables, which can be performed at Gladstone Clinic for patients in Blackhawk, San Ramon, Manteca, Danville, Pleasanton, San Francisco, and the surrounding communities.
Your face is an organ of communication; your window to the world of first and lasting impressions. Your face should accurately communicate your inner vibrancy and vitality.
Your face is also a three-dimensional biologic work of art. In youth, it is heart shaped, with no lines of demarcation and is defined by an angular roundness. Age chips away at facial volume and structure leaving a deflated hollowing and sagging soft tissue envelope.
Fortunately, in many patients, combinations of injectables can reinvigorate your natural facial anatomy and contours. At the Gladstone Clinic, we customize both wrinkle relaxers such as Botox® and Dysport® and fillers such as Juvéderm Voluma®, Sculptra®, Radiesse®, Jeuveau®, Juvéderm®, Belotero® and Restylane® to fit your specific needs.
There are risks with all procedures, including injectables. Though there should not be downtime with these products, there can be bruising and swelling. Ice or a cold pack before and after the procedure will reduce the risk of bruising and swelling. Not taking aspirin or nonsteroidal pain relievers such as Ibuprofen as well as fish oil or vitamin E a week prior to the procedure will reduce the risk of bruising and swelling.
Belotero®
What: Is a hyaluronic acid injectable filler designed to integrate into facial skin tissue. It is a soft and cohesive gel that, once injected, Can quickly fill the skin to help smooth moderate-to-severe etched-in lines and wrinkles.
Where: Fine lines. Off-label use would include underneath the eyes for filling the so-called tear trough deformity.
When: Instantly
How long: Depends, but usually 6 months
Bottom Line: Belotero® is a very soft smooth filler that is very malleable and may be more “forgiving” in certain areas compared to other fillers.
Juvéderm®
What: A clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid that is specifically formulated to act like your body’s own naturally produced hyaluronic acid
Where: Moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, especially around the nose and mouth.
When: Possibly instantly. There may be swelling from these products in addition to their natural effect. This swelling can be temporary and usually resolves within 24-48 hours.
How Long: Depends on site. In smile lines (nasolabial folds) approximately 6 months.
Bottom Line: Juvéderm® which comes in the XC and Ultra versions is particularly effective in the smile lines and marionette lines around the mouth/chin.
Radiesse®
What: Comprised of Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in an aqueous gel carrier
Where: Temporarily adds volume to help smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds (smile lines).
Volumizing your hands. Radiesse® can plump up and rejuvenate your hands. Often patients spend a great deal of effort in facial rejuvenation and neglect their hands. This creates disharmony between your face and hands, and can be quickly noticeable.
Off-label uses include for volumizing the chin—a nonsurgical chin implant; for the nasal bridge; smoothing the jawline (filling prejowl grooves).
When: Instantly.
How Long: Depends. In the nasolabial folds, Radiesse® may last 10-12 months.
Bottom Line: Radiesse® is a very versatile filler, particularly good for the hands. Unlike the hyaluronic fillers, there is not an enzyme that diminishes the filler if there is a bump that occurs during injection or if an area is overfilled.
Juvéderm Voluma®
What: Injectable hyaluronic gel for deep injection to correct age-related volume loss
Where: Cheeks, particularly the upper cheeks.
When: Possibly instantly.
How Long: May last approximately 2 years
Bottom Line: Juvéderm Voluma® is fantastic in recreating the “apple” portion of your cheeks that you had in youth. To achieve this result, many patients will need at least 2 syringes. It helps recreate the youthful heart shaped face. It can be used off label in the temples or chin.
Sculptra®
What: Poly-L-Lactic Acid. Diluted with sterile water. Injected deep and for volumizing selected areas of the face.
Where: Cheeks and temples, but also other selected facial regions
When: Results can usually be gradual, and requires multiple treatments over several months. However, Sculptra® stimulates the body’s own collagen.
How Long: Can be 2+ years in many patients.
Bottom Line: While you may require 4+ treatments every 6 weeks, this allows for further tailoring and sculpting based on your needs. Sculptra® is an excellent cheek and temple volumizer and helps to recreate the heart shaped face of youth.
Bellafill®
What: Polymethylmethacrylate microspheres suspended in collagen. This substance creates a natural scaffolding in your skin which promotes your own collagen production.
Where: Acne Scars, Smile lines; cheeks; temples
When: Immediate effect.
How Long: 5 years or longer
Bottom Line: This is a permanent filler that may be very effective for certain types of acne scars. It can also be used for the other facial cosmetic areas in a judicious fashion. Bellafill requires a skin test.
